Co-CEO and CFO, Delta-Q Technologies Corp., A Zapi Group Company

Sarah MacKinnon is a CPA with more than 20 years’ experience in key senior finance roles,  primarily within the clean technology sector.   Since 2012, Sarah has been the CFO of Delta-Q Technologies, where she partnered with the CEO and Board of Directors on driving topline growth and profitability, resulting in the acquisition of Delta-Q by the Zapi Group in late 2016.   Since the acquisition she has assumed the Co-CEO role in addition to her CFO role and led a team responsible for driving revenue to $100M USD.  Prior to joining Delta-Q, Sarah held a number of key senior finance roles over a 15-year period, primarily focused in the clean technology sector, in both private and public companies, where she not only built and led strong finance teams, but also was a member of the leadership teams responsible for multiple acquisitions and integration activities.  Sarah holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.

As an advisor specializing in comprehensive wealth management for High-Net-Worth individuals, Shannon Walters joined the KPMG Family Office as a Director in 2020.  Prior to her role at KPMG, she served as a trusted advisor, leading a team in private banking wealth management at one of Canada’s largest financial institutions. 

As a Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA), Shannon has developed a skill set that includes helping members of a family business establish effective communication and create a clear roadmap to achieve their goals. She is passionate about providing financial literacy opportunities and encouraging voices from all generations throughout each stage of the planning process.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Finance and Economics, and a Master of Business Administration (UBC) with a specialization in Strategy. She has been a Certified Financial Planner since 2004 and completed the Financial Management Advisor designation through the Canadian Securities Institute, as well as the STEP Advanced Certificate in Advising the Family Business and the STEP Advanced Certificate in Family Business Governance.

Courtney’s professional career started in commercial lending at Canadian Western Bank. She worked at Canadian Western Bank and rose to Commercial Account Manager, while pursuing her Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting. Upon completion her degree, Courtney pursued a Chartered Professional Accountant designation, at which point she joined KPMG LLP.

Courtney worked at KPMG for over eight years, and was promoted from staff accountant to senior manager over that time. During this time, she focused on privately owned for profit businesses in a variety if industries, which included manufacturing, construction and construction related.

Recently, Courtney took the leap into industry, and obtained the position as Controller at SmartSweets. Courtney is excited to bring her skills from both commercial lending and assurance to contribute to this fast growing company, and is happy to add to her growing skillset.
