Carla A. Mauro, CA,
Vice President, Assistant General Manager
Nintendo of Canada Ltd.

Carla Mauro, a Chartered Accountant, left the tax department of KPMG’s Richmond office in 1990 for a “stint” in industry. She was hired by Nintendo to establish the accounting systems for the company which had just opened its Canadian headquarters in Richmond, BC. At that time, the video game industry was in its infancy.

Twenty years later, the Canadian video game industry has grown to $1.9B, with Nintendo ranking #1 in market share in calendar 2009 (source: The NPD Group Inc.). During the first decade, as Manager of Finance & Administration, Carla orchestrated the establishment of the infrastructure for all aspects of finance, forecasting, human resources, and information systems. She was a key contributor in the development of a proprietary replenishment system which allowed Nintendo’s retail customers to run a just‐in‐time inventory system for video games. The system has won Nintendo multiple accolades from several national retailers, including Wal‐Mart and Zellers. Nintendo in Canada became one of the most profitable subsidiaries within the international organization.

In 2002, Carla was promoted to the position of Vice President, Assistant General Manager, reporting directly to the Vice President, General Manager of the Canadian office, as well as the Executive Team at the parent company, Nintendo of America. As the second in command in Canada, Carla has spent the last several years working more closely with Sales & Merchandising to strengthen the Nintendo brand in Canada. She also has focused on bolstering the corporate culture within the Canadian office, committed to optimizing outcomes for employees and Nintendo through the combination of competitive financial benefits and a psychologically healthy workplace. Within the last 2 years, Nintendo has been recognized as a Best Workplace in Canada 2009 by the Great Place to Work Institute Canada, one of BC’s Top 55 Employers for 2010 and A Top 50 Best Small & Medium Employer in Canada in 2010 as surveyed by Queen’s School of Business and Hewitt (ranking #22, up from #33 in 2009).

Carla enjoys a healthy balance of work, community and family. She has volunteered as a Board Member for New Media BC, North Shore Youth Soccer Association, and the Elizabeth Fry Society, and is a strong supporter of the United Way, Union Gospel Mission and Helping Families in Need Society. She values spending time with her husband of 21 years, two teenagers, and the family dog.
