We are delighted to have Corporate Director Jane Peverett and Risk Governance Specialist Ann Wicks join us to share their personal experiences and insights on women’s experiences of claiming their seats at the boardroom table. 

Formerly available only to AWF members, the Fireside Chat Series are now open to the community at-large. The Fireside Chat Series provides a small, intimate environment for industry professionals to network (bring your business cards) with top members of the financial community and meet with high-caliber business leaders. As this event has limited seats, register early to secure your spot.

More about the speakers:

Jane Peverett is a well-established corporate director.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of CIBC, EnCana Corporation, BC Ferry Authority, NW Natural Gas Company, AEGIS Insurance Services, Postmedia Network Inc. and Postmedia Network Canada Corp.  She has served on the boards of the Stratford Festival, the National Ballet School, the Canadian Natural Gas Association, the Canadian Electricity Association, the Ontario Energy Association and the Business Council of British Columbia.

Jane is currently a member of the Advisory Board of MacKay CEO Forums, member of the Selection Committee for Canadian CEO of the Year, the Chair of the Board of the BC Ferry Authority, the Chair of the Audit Committee of Encana, and on the Executive Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Prior to being a corporate director, Ms. Peverett held the positions of President and CEO of the BC Transmission Corporation and President and CEO of Union Gas.

Ann Wicks is a Certified Professional Accountant with 15 years’ experience in public affairs and corporate governance. Currently working as the Risk Governance Specialist for the Financial Institutions Commission, Ann oversees corporate governance structures for BC’s credit union sector.

Previously, Ann served as Managing Director of BC’s Board Resourcing and Development Office overseeing board governance and executive recruitment for over 300 provincial commissions and boards of directors. Federally, she served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Leader of Government of Senate responsible for the recruitment of Directors serving on federal crown corporation boards.

A respected voice on issues of diversity, Ann served as an Executive Director of a national non-governmental organization advocating for diversity as a means to improve the governance of public sector institutions. Her published work appears in the Canadian Parliamentary Review, Oxford University Press, and CMA Magazine.  She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Carleton University and completed governance courses with the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Actively involved in the community, Ann volunteers as a Co-Chair on the United Way Campaign Cabinet, the Association of Women in Finance Board of Directors and previously chaired the Nominations Committee for the YWCA Vancouver Women of Distinction Awards.
