Based at A&W’s Corporate Home Office in North Vancouver, the Controller is responsible for all financial reporting for the Company and related private entities as well as for the publicly traded Income Fund.

Based at A&W’s Corporate Home Office in North Vancouver, the Controller is responsible for all financial reporting for the Company and related private entities as well as for the publicly traded Income Fund. The Controller plays a pivotal role in corporate planning and budgeting, corporate tax activities, in safeguarding fixed assets and working capital and in providing proactive interpretation of financial data by the Company. 

The Controller is one of 5 direct reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The Accounting Administrator, Intermediate Accountant, Payroll Administrator and Benefits Administrator report to the Controller. The Controller interfaces with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including senior executives, managers, Trustees, lawyers, auditors, bankers and representatives of government agencies, including tax authorities. 

The candidate must be a Chartered Professional Accountant with at least 7 years of progressive financial management experience. The ideal candidate has strong business acumen and a passion for accounting, financial reporting, problem solving and informed decision-making. The candidate must have a superb eye for detail and be willing and able to be hands-on without losing sight of the big picture. The candidate must possess sound knowledge of financial controls, full-cycle accounting, tax, payroll and benefits administration as well as proven expertise in financial and corporate reporting, and risk management. A strategic thinker who can anticipate and navigate change, the candidate must have the proven ability to successfully balance multiple priorities and achieve accurate results on time and with relationships intact. A proactive person with leadership attributes, high integrity, excellent analytical, writing, and oral communication skills, the candidate must also have strong organizational and time management skills.
