Director, Corporate Engagement & Public Policy - NEI Investments

For the last eight years, Michelle has worked within the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Services team at NEI Investments, where she is responsible for the Corporate Engagement program. NEI’s Corporate Engagement program integrates targeted, in-depth dialogues with companies; engaged proxy voting according to guidelines promoting sustainability and good governance; responding to proactive requests from leading companies and industry associations for an investor perspective on ESG issues; public policy engagement on corporate regulations and standards to create sector and economy-wide change; and participation in multi-stakeholder initiatives to find practical solutions to sustainability problems. She has authored and co-authored a variety of publications and submissions on responsible investment topics, including NEI's contributions to consultations on board diversity disclosure requirements. Before joining NEI Investments, Michelle served as a diplomat and worked as a staff member and consultant for environment and social development organizations in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Strategic Advisor and Counsel, Securities and Capital Markets Group - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP

Maryse Bertrand is strategic advisor and counsel in the Securities and Capital Markets Group in the Montreal Office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.  Maryse brings three decades of senior leadership experience advising boards and senior executives on governance, risk and cross-border or complex transactions in diverse industries. Major mandates include the acquisition by the TSX of the Montreal Exchange, the sale of satellite provider Telesat Canada to US-based Loral Space and Communications, and the $52 billion attempted leveraged buy-out of BCE – the largest corporate transaction in Canadian history.

Maryse is a member of the Board of Directors of National Bank of Canada, a member of its Risk Management Committee and chair of its Governance and Conduct Review Committee. She is also a director of Metro Inc. and a member of its Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee. In 2015, she co-founded the Maryse and William Brock Chair in Applied Research into Stem Cell Transplantation at the Université de Montréal. Previously, she chaired the Board of Directors of Radio-Canada’s specialty channel, ARTV, and was a director of La Senza Inc. as well as a member of its Audit Committee and chair of its Governance Committee. She chaired the CBC’s National Crisis Committee and also managed compliance with access to information and privacy laws.

Maryse is a member of the Board of Governors of McGill University, and was a member of the Advisory Board of its Law Faculty where she lectured on securities regulation. Maryse was awarded the distinction of Advocatus Emeritus by the Quebec Bar in recognition of exceptional contribution to the practice of law in 2007, was recognized by the National Post as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Canada in 2004, and was recognized by Lexpert® as one of Canada’s Top 30 Corporate Dealmakers in 2002, Canada’s Top 25 Women Lawyers in 2004, and 100 Most Creative Lawyers in Canada in 2006.

Fiona L. Macdonald

Fiona serves as an Independent Director on the Board of GMP Capital. She is a member of the Management Resources & Compensation Committee, and the Governance and Nominating Committee. GMP Capital is publicly traded on the TSX, has market cap of $350 million, and is a leading independent investment dealer with two integrated business segments of Capital Markets and Wealth Management. GMP has operations in Canada, the US and Asia.

Fiona is a Director on the BC Ferry Authority, the shareholder of BC Ferry Services, which operates one of the largest ferry fleets in the world with annual revenue above $800 million. Fiona is the Chair of the BC Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Fiona had a successful career in professional services, building industry-leading, respected and profitable consulting practices in Canada and the US. Fiona achieved significant profitable growth and turned around two separate business units, both in the US. She is also a recognized expert in executive compensation.

Vice President, Corporate Governance and Responsible Investment - RBC Global Asset Management 

Jason is Vice President, Corporate Governance and Responsible Investment for RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM).  Jason joined the private client department of PH&N IM in 2000 and took on the role of Corporate Governance Analyst two years later. He assumed his current role in 2008 when PH&N was acquired by RBC GAM and is now part of the Corporate Governance & Responsible Investment Group within RBC GAM which is responsible for the integration of environmental, social, and governance factors into the investment process.  

Prior to joining the firm, Jason worked in the corporate finance department of a national brokerage and as a mutual fund accountant.  Jason became a CFA charterholder in 2001, and is currently the chair of the board of the Responsible Investment Association of Canada (RIA Canada).

Jennifer Reynolds is the President and CEO of Women in Capital Markets and has been an active advocate and supporter of the advancement of women in the industry over her career. Prior to joining WCM, Jennifer spent 15 years working in the capital markets industry, primarily in Investment Banking, holding senior roles with BMO Capital Markets and Stonecap Securities, and in the venture capital industry with OMERS Ventures.

Jennifer is a Director on the Board of the Canada Development Investment Corporation ("CDEV"), and is a former Member of the Ontario Venture Capital Fund Advisory Committee, Chair of the Board of Advisors of the Microskills Business Incubator, and Director on the Board of Studio 180, an independent, Toronto based theatre company. Jennifer is also active in her community as the Honorary Chair of the Princess Margaret Hospital Weekend Walk to End Women's Cancers and a Member of the YWCA Women of Distinction Committee.  ​In 2015, ​she was named a Women's Executive Network (WXN) Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner.

Jennifer is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Women's Leadership program, and she received her MBA from McGill University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Economics and Political Science from McGill University.
